Adam Drapkin, DC
Eugene Chiropractor & Owner of A Healing Space

Picture
My partner and I manifested our shared vision of a  healing sanctuary in 2007. As a chiropractor of over 20 years, my work is continually evolving as I meet the individual needs of each client.  Core to my work is fostering communication within the body – not only between the brain and body, but also body-mind-spirit.

Tell us about your primary training and any continuing education you have done.
Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa.  BSC major in exercise.  Continuing Ed in Pranic Healing (energy work) with Dr. Klingart.  Also, Applied Neuropsychobiology-based Chiropractic with Dr. Barwell.

What unique skills and gifts distinguish you?  How would you describe your style?
I bring a strong intuitive ability to my work. I have a sense of the bigger picture; that chiro. changes lives through communication with the body. Getting the brain and body to communicate properly is what really does the trick.   I spend time with the patient, bringing in energy work and emotional aspects. It’s not just about spinal adjustments and bones being out of place.  Pain in the body has its root in the nervous system and a symptom of being out of balance and resistance.

How do you assess clients?
I do what I call an energetic scan (what  attracts my attention) as well as assess muscle tightness, and the quality of mobility in the spine.

Why did you choose this work?
Chiropractic chose me.  The Healing Arts drew me, but I did not fit in the western medical model. A reflexologist addressed my foot issue in a matter of moments and that sold me.

What is your definition of healing?
Healing begins with acceptance. Dis-ease in the body happens from judgments, wrong perceptions, and  fighting what “is” in the body.  It’s important to consent to what is happening before you can change it. Diseases in the body are often a reflection of something that you have not accepted, or a limited perception. It can be a way of looking where you are ‘not fully present’.  The process of healing is facilitated through what I call Optimal Communication, where all systems are in communication and working together in harmony.

How do you encourage and support clients in self-care at home?
I encourage clients to engage in self-care such as stretching, breathing techniques, and staying hydrated. Anything that helps clients to continue listening to their body, developing greater communication through awareness is important.

“I have been seeing chiropractors since I was a kid.  Adam is by far one of the most effective, with his wide range of skills he brings to the table.  I feel that he tunes in to where my body is out of communication.  He has a way of working with me that is more than just my spine, it feels more holistic – mind, body and spirit.”
