U.S. Rep. Ron Paul objects to the government becoming involved in medical issues and adding to the hysteria surrounding swine flu.
In 1976 the swine flu caused panic, and the government came up with flu shots as a solution. The flu came and went, but more people died from the vaccine than from the flu itself. Many became sick from the vaccine, and the vaccination program was suspended.
In a short video his office produced in late April 2009, the congressman, a medical doctor, talks about the swine flu panic of 1976 and offers his perspective on the 2009 scare.
