During the holidays, we’re often reminded to focus our attention on gratitude; gratitude for our lives, the people in it, and all the little things that make it more joyous.  With the recent accolades from the Weekly’s Best of Eugene, a successful open house, and some very kind reviews, we’ve been feeling your gratitude and have been appreciative of your willingness to share it.  But, we didn’t want to let this year pass without expressing our gratitude for you.

Working as Dr. Adam’s assistant, I’ve been an observer to hundreds of chiropractic appointments. Our coordinated care approach also means our therapists discuss your cases (when necessary and appropriate), to ensure you’re receiving the best and most effective care we can offer.  Over time, we’ve come to a consensus… you are all amazing!

You come to us with your worries, your fears, your hopes, your goals, and some very interesting stories. Addressing health concerns can be challenging and worrisome, but you choose us to help you and we are honored by your choice.

Windward Empathy to Join A Healing Space, January 2016

Please join us in welcoming Windward Empathy to A Healing Space.  These two talented healers will be bringing their work in Empathic Listening to our offices.  There is much more information to come, but here is a little intro about Mark & Heather...

Picture
We are Mark and Heather Schlessman and our story begins in Portland, Oregon where we had just moved to shepherd a religious community. Both of us had a longing to be present in this life in a very different way, and we weren’t sure how to get there.

Each of us came to find the work of Marshall Rosenberg regarding nonviolent communication, and we were lucky enough to find a protégé of his, Kathy Marchant. We took the introductory course and then began the weekly practice sessions in an empathic community that continued until we moved to Hawaii 4 years later.

Healing with Daoist Medical Qigong

Healing with Daoist Medical Qigong
By: Eric Schaffer, DMQ

Picture
According to Chinese Medicine:
Chinese medicine says: When the body’s energy flows freely, with the right amount of energy - not too much or too little, and is balanced, we will be free from illnesses, emotional problems, and troubled mind. Harmony will be present, and we’ll live longer.

Medical Qigong is Good for Symptoms
Medical qigong clears the energetic and emotional blockages that are at the root of symptoms. Both energetic treatment and self-healing exercises gently “jump start” a return to the smooth flow and balance of the body’s energies. Although a single session is useful to get a sense of the work, symptoms develop over a period of years or decades, and usually a series of sessions is needed to be effective. Progress is reviewed session by session, and after a series of 3 or 6 sessions. A self-healing qigong exercise prescription is offered during the session. Affordable self-healing qigong classes are offered monthly.

Picture
What is Qigong?
Using movement exercises, breath work, and meditation, Qigong is an ancient Chinese discipline that trains and synchronizes our body, mind, and spirit. Qigong means “energy training” and “breath training”.

Medical qigong
Medical qigong combines the skill and knowledge of training the body’s energy from qigong, with Chinese medicine theory. It is a complete, holistic medicine that treats the body, emotions, mind, and energy.

A Healing Session
In a typical session, the practitioner and client have a dialog about the client’s health concerns and symptoms, and discuss what will occur in the session. Medical qigong diagnosis occurs through a health questionnaire, conversation, tongue diagnosis, and an energetic assessment that occurs during treatment.

December Gratitude Challenge

12/7/2015

Comments

Feeling, expressing, and focusing on gratitude has been shown to increase your sense of happiness and well-being.  Although the holidays may be stressful, emotional, or challenging in some ways, choosing to focus on gratitude can help keep the spirit of the season alive - and it can help make the holidays even more enjoyable.

For the month of December, Master Stephen Co, a leader in the Pranic Healing community, will be leading a 31 Days of Gratitude Challenge.

The challenge is to participate in as many gratitude meditations as possible.  The meditations are all guided by Master Stephen Co and available to you, for free, online. You can choose to do them at set times for a "group" meditation with people around the world, or you can do them on your own at a time that is convenient for you.

Each day is focused on gratitude for specific areas of your life, and will be addressing areas you are currently grateful for, as well as areas that could be improved upon.  Below you'll find the schedule for what the topic will be each day of the week.  Please visit their website for more information and access to the videos.

Happy December everyone and we hope you have a wonderful, gratitude-filled holiday season!

The Healing Powers of Forgiveness and Compassion

11/19/2015

By: Dr. Adam Drapkin & Jacque Palaniuk

There is much insight dedicated to the topic of forgiveness that has been passed down for centuries. There is a particular sequence of words, however, that seems to hold volumes of raw, powerful, truth: “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.” These words, spoken by Buddha, are meant to penetrate the issue and generate thought. It's a quote that makes you think, and in return, gives you that “Ah ha!” moment.

We live in a society of rules and laws, but there are some laws of nature that simply cannot be broken. They are often referred to as universal laws, one of which we are all familiar - whatever energy you send out you get back tenfold, or a more commonly used cliché, “What goes around, comes around.” This is the law of Karma.

When we hold a grudge against someone it may end up harming them, but it most certainly harms us more; and in more than one way. Not only is it harmful emotionally and spiritually, but over time, it can make you physically ill. Giving power to such negative feelings is exhausting.

Healthy Ways to Reduce Stress

Healthy Ways to Identify and Reduce Stress

Stress and tension.  These states are familiar to most people and are quite common in our society. Whether you experience stress regularly (because of a job, situation, or natural tendency), or you only experience it on occasion, it's important to have healthy ways of dealing with it.

It is helpful to understand the different types of stress, so you can identify what you're experiencing and how best to address it.  To categorize stress and tension simply, there are three different kinds - physical, mental, and emotional.

Physical stress and tension relates to your physical body.  If your body is stressed trying to recover from an illness or injury, or your muscles are tensed from overexertion, this is physical stress.

Mental stress is more about your mind and mental functioning.  Perhaps you've spent long hours working on a project or when trying to solve a problem, you find yourself "overthinking" and maybe even obsessing about finding a solution.  These are just a few examples of mental stress.

An Interview with Liza Burney - Pranic Healing Teacher

7/14/2015

Comments

Are you curious about the Pranic Healing classes we’re offering Saturday, July 18th?  If you’ve been considering possibly attending a class, but still have more questions, this article is for you.  I had the opportunity to spend some time with Liza Burney, owner of Heart-to-Heart Healing, who will be teaching both classes. Not only was it a very interesting interview, but we covered a lot of questions that you might have.  From understanding her background to knowing more about the classes, these are the questions covered in the interview:

·         What made you decide to make the move from practicing law to practicing energy work?
·         What is Pranic Healing?
·         How do you assess the energy system and heal something you can’t see?
·         Do I need any sort of experience to take the class(es)?
·         Who are these tools for?
·         How much time will I need?
·         What can Pranic Healing help with?
·         If I’m under the care of another doctor(s), will this interfere?
·         Can Pranic Healing help with the conditions/issues I’m working with?
·         Who will benefit the most from each of the two classes offered?
·         I’m not a practitioner, can I still attend the energy hygiene class?
·         Could I attend both classes?  Or is it recommended to choose one or the other?

Heart-to-Heart Healing Offers Professional Development Class

Class from Heart-to-Heart Healing Teaches Techniques to help with “Energy Hygiene and Stress Relief.”

Picture
Are you a Doctor, Nurse, Massage Therapist, Chiropractor, Bodyworker, Hairdresser, Physical Therapist, Social Worker, Counselor, Acupuncturist or anyone else who works closely with people, especially in a healing context?
  • Have you ever felt tired or drained after a long day at work? Or what about feeling heavy and nauseous after listening to another person’s problems?
  • Are you the primary caretaker of another family member?
  • Do you take on the stress of your clients?
  • Does your client feel better, but you feel worse?
  • Do you literally feel your client’s pain?
  • Are you sensitive to dirty energy in a room?
You may be experiencing energy transference.  You can eliminate and prevent this, which is the idea behind “Energy Hygiene.”  Caretaking for others as a profession has specific energetic implications, which if ignored, can lead to stress, burnout, job dissatisfaction and personal illness.

Liza Burney of Heart-to-Heart Healing offers an in-depth Energy Hygiene and Stress Relief class on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 2:30 to 4:30, A Healing Space, 171 Lawrence St., Eugene, OR 97401. This two-hour course focuses on helping you enhance the use of mind-body medicine and relaxation response techniques in your clinical practice through the use of energy healing techniques.  Participants will learn tools to assess their energetic condition, and learn simple and easy-to-use techniques to help with stress reduction. When you can apply effective prevention and treatment choices known to reduce allostatic load, it improves outcomes in the short-term, lowers the long-term prevalence of diseases, and reduces the likelihood of burnout.  This class is interactive; skills will be practiced as they are learned.

Medical Qigong - Exercise Classes in July

7/6/2015

Comments

The 30 minute exercise classes are short and powerful, which makes them easy for people with busy lives. The classes will utilize movement and breathing exercises to shift illness patterns and relieve pain and suffering of health symptoms, stress, and emotional concerns. The exercises treat the root of illness, which supports improvement of health, mental clarity, and emotional contentment. Even complex, chronic, and resistant conditions often respond to Medical Qigong care, because treating the root of illness can invigorate and balance whole systems in the body, heart, and mind. Class drop-ins will be allowed for fifteen minutes at the beginning of every class in July.

The 75 minute Acceptance, Transformation, and Self-Healing Class includes the principles of the short classes that emphasize symptomatic relief, plus additional knowledge and tools for personal growth and change.

If you would like Eric to be informed of your health challenges, you may complete a health questionnaire before or after class. Medical Qigong healing appointments are available to deepen the work; if you are interested, a free ½ hour consultation can be scheduled to discuss what is included in a Medical Qigong healing session.

To learn more, visit our site at www.qigong-clinic.com. You can register online and make healing appointments using the yellow “Schedule Now” button on the Home Page.  This option asks for prepayment for the service. You can also register to join the class, drop in for a class, or make healing appointments, by contacting Eric at (541) 852-1628 or emailing him at info@qigong-clinic.com.
