Postural Awareness for Office Workers

In today's technologically-driven society, sedentary lifestyles and decreased physical activity are prevalent. In fact, Americans are now sitting an average of 13 hours per day! But the human body was not designed to be so still. Evolutionarily we are hunters and gatherers who were designed to walk and run for miles a day, and although the world has changed, our musculoskeletal system remains the same.
The body is an integrated, balanced unit of muscles and joints that must be fed and refueled by motion. The typical "desk-jockey" who undergoes long hours of computer use receives restricted movement-stimulus, which is limited to the relatively few muscles and joints that are directly involved. Our bodies are paying for it!

In this interactive presentation, Gina Edge will discuss the postural implications of sedentary living and how it can lead to chronic pain. She will offer a postural analysis of a few volunteers and guide participants through a series of postural-aligning exercises and stretches that can be done at home or at one's desk. Participants will leave with an understanding of chronic pain due to sedentary living and how the Egoscue Method of Postural Alignment Therapy can restore the body to its natural blueprint and pain-free living.
